Reach for the Stars

Move from “Active Playgrounds” to “Embedded Excellence”

Most schools have Sports Leaders, but few have a sequenced, inclusive curriculum that turns playground activity into measurable character growth.

Under the new inspection framework, “one-off” leadership roles are no longer enough. Inspectors are looking for intentionality, consistency, and evidence that leadership opportunities are also reaching your most vulnerable cohorts.

Reach for the Stars is a “done-for-you” accredited framework that empowers your students to lead, while providing you with the data to prove it.

How Does It Work?

Secure Your “Strong” or “Exceptional” Grade

We have mapped every module of this program to the 2025/2026 Evaluation Areas:

  • Character & Resilience: Students move from guided play to independent event management, building the confidence and self-regulation inspectors look for.
  • Fundamental British Values: Our built-in “Democracy in Sport” thread teaches students mutual respect and the “Rule of Law” through peer-officiating and fair play.
  • Inclusion (Standalone Rating): Designed to be SEND-accessible, ensuring that leadership isn’t just for the most confident, but a “transformational” opportunity for your Disadvantaged and PP learners.
  • Pupil Voice: Every student completes a “Leadership Passport Log” – physical evidence of “Pupil Agency” ready for your inspector deep-dive.

Reviews

Our Academic Leaders were involved in the Pitch Perfect public speaking workshop with Young Leaders Academy. They learnt breathing strategies, strategies for structuring a speech, tips for keeping their audience engaged, as well as getting involved in a variety of different speaking games. It was great to see our students talking with passion and confidence about a variety of topics and supporting their peers through any nerves using the strategies that they had learnt. It was great to see both quiet and confident boys having a go at public speaking in front of the group, and hopefully you will see the boys contributing and presenting in class with greater self- awareness in the coming weeks.

Are we really giving children the 'how to' in public speaking? How to use their voice, use gestures, tone of voice, pitch and pace. Are they (children) being clear, concise and coherent in their communication? We have been using the Pitch Perfect program since last year and continue this year with 30+ students. It gives us a clear framework to work to.

The ‘Reach for the Stars’ sports leader award has transformed our playground. Before the Sports Leaders were at odds on what to do. Now they’re excited and have a whole library of activities and the playground is buzzing because of it.

I echo what's been said. The investment that Young Leaders Academy have put in can't be put in to words and I look forward to more of these types of programs
